"We will work with them to convince the mullahs that they need to give up their nuclear ambitions" when read sounds just fine, but substitute "mooolah" and "nucular" in there plus some timing only a skilled comedian could replicate and you turn immediately into a clown. The reporters that transcribe speeches are quite forgiving, indeed. All this gold without even looking at the content.

Europa - Constitution
This'll be a fun vote to watch, particularly the voter turnout: The European Union Constitution. [europa.eu.int, link, wikipedia]
Spain's the first one up to hold a referrendum about accepting the Constitution.* Let's reflect for a few minutes on the word "constitution" and what it means as a framework of society.

Enough reflecting? Ok. Here's my prediction: Less than 40% turnout.

Overheard: "They don't protect the worker's right to strike!" Good job, Spaniards.

* 3 others have approved it via their parliment, not a popular referrendum

Update, 050220
42% voter turnout, I was close. A resounding: We dunno... when's siesta? [Guardian, BBC]
Here's more great ideas from Europe: Sending the EU Constitution to space. If Europeans won't read the constitution, what makes them think aliens will?

Update 050224

Netherlands: June 1
France: May or June
EU Summit: Mid June
